Jam Legiō Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy — Jam Legiō App

Last updated: September 9, 2026

Jam with Latin (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Jam with Latin mobile application (the “Jam with Latin, Legiō App”). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how that information is collected, how it is used, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and how you can access or delete it.

This policy applies to the Jam with Latin Legiō App mobile App. The public website at https://www.jamwithlatin.com/ may have its own pages and class-enrollment tools; this policy is about the App submitted to the Apple App Store.

By creating an account or using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not create an account. You can still practice on a device without signing in; that play stays on the device.

1. Who this App is for

The App helps students practice classical Latin vocabulary, verb endings, and short sentences through a Roman-legion journey. It is intended for students, parents, and educators.

If you are under 13, or under the age of digital consent where you live, use the App only with a parent or guardian. Parents and educators should create and manage accounts for younger students.

The App is rated for all ages. It is not listed in the App Store Kids Category.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what is needed to run the App: sign you in, save progress, show the leaderboard, and keep the App stable. We do not collect a real email address, phone number, home address, or date of birth. We do not ask for photos, contacts, microphone, camera, health data, or your location.

Account information (only if you create an account)

You choose:

• A sign-in username (used to log in; not shown to other players as your public name)
• A 6-digit PIN (used only to sign in; stored by our authentication provider in hashed form, not as a visible PIN)
• A display name (the name shown on Home and the leaderboard — for example a first name or nickname)
• An avatar chosen from pictures that ship with the App (not a photo from your camera or photo library)

We do not collect a real email address. The username is stored with our sign-in provider as an internal login ID. That ID is not a mailbox and is never used to send email.

Progress and gameplay (if you have an account)

Tied to your account we store:

• Experience points (shown in the App as coins), rank, completed cities, and journey progress
• Scores from play
• Your chosen avatar

On-device play (no account)

If you play without signing in, progress, display name, and avatar can be stored on that device only. That local play is not uploaded to our servers as an account. If you later create an account, progress can be saved to that account so it can follow you to another device.

Information we do not collect

The App does not collect:

• Email address, phone number, physical address, or date of birth
• Precise or coarse location (the journey map shows historical cities; it does not use your GPS or “show my location”)
• Photos, videos, camera, microphone, or contacts
• Payment information (there are no in-app purchases)
• Advertising identifiers, and we do not request permission to track you
• Messages between users (there is no chat)

Diagnostics (to keep the App running)

The App uses Sentry, a crash-reporting service, to receive:

• Crash reports and error details when something breaks
• Limited performance information (for example, if the App freezes)
• Basic technical context such as App version and operating system

Sentry is configured not to send default personal details such as IP address, device name, or your account name. We do not attach your username or display name to crash reports. Diagnostic data may be sent even if you play without an account, because it is used to keep the App stable, not to identify a student.

Information Apple or your device may process

Apple may process information in the ordinary course of running iOS, the App Store, and Apple Maps (used for the journey map on iPhone and iPad). We do not receive your location from the map. We are not responsible for data Apple collects under Apple’s own policies.

3. How we collect information

• You provide it when you create an account, choose a display name or avatar, or play games.
• The App stores it on the device (local progress and sign-in session) and, if you have an account, on our hosted database.
• Our infrastructure records it when the App signs you in, saves progress, loads the leaderboard, checks for an App update, or reports a crash.

We do not scrape personal information from other sources. We do not buy personal information. We do not build a profile of you from other companies’ apps or websites.

4. How we use information

We use this information only to:

• Create and manage your account
• Sign you in and keep you signed in on that device
• Save and restore progress, coins, rank, and journey state
• Show the leaderboard (display name, avatar, rank, and coins)
• Provide customer support when you email us
• Operate, secure, and fix the App (including crash and performance reports)
• Deliver App updates

We do not use this information for advertising, marketing lists, profiling students, selling data, or training third-party artificial intelligence.

Creating an account is how you consent to storing account and progress data so the App can function. You can withdraw that consent by deleting the account (see section 8). Playing without an account is the way to use the App without creating a server-side profile.

5. How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information with data brokers. We do not share personal information with advertising networks. We do not share personal information with third-party AI.

We use service providers that process data on our behalf only to run the App:

• Supabase — account sign-in and the database that stores profiles, progress, and scores
• Sentry — crash reports and limited performance diagnostics, to find and fix bugs
• Expo — delivering App updates
• Apple — App Store distribution, and Apple Maps for the journey map on iPhone and iPad

These providers may process data in the United States or other countries. We require them to protect user data with protections that are the same as or equal to those in this policy and Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines, and to use the data only to provide their service to us.

Visible to other players. If you have an account, other people using the App can see your display name, avatar, rank, and coins on the leaderboard. They cannot see your sign-in username or PIN.

We may disclose information if required by law, to respond to a valid legal request, or to protect the safety of users or the App.

6. Tracking, advertising, and purchases

• The App does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
• The App contains no ads.
• The App contains no in-app purchases and no subscriptions.
• We do not use the App Tracking Transparency prompt because we do not track.
• We do not access the advertising identifier (IDFA).

7. Data retention

• Account and progress data is kept while the account is active.
• On-device data stays on that device until you delete the App, sign out, or delete the account (which clears the server copy; you can also remove the App from the device).
• Crash and performance reports are kept only as long as needed to diagnose and fix problems.
• Backups. After you delete an account, copies may remain for a short time in encrypted backups used for reliability and legal compliance, then they are removed in the ordinary backup cycle.

8. Your rights and choices

In the App (Profile):

• Sign out at any time
• Change your display name and avatar
• Delete your account — this permanently removes your account, progress, and coins from our live systems. It cannot be undone.

You may also email us to request access, correction, or deletion of the personal information we hold. We will take steps to verify the request (for a child’s account, we will work with the parent or educator).

You can use the App without creating an account. Guest play is stored on the device only.

If we ever asked for a device permission (we currently do not ask for camera, photos, microphone, location, contacts, or tracking), you could also withdraw that permission in iOS Settings. Paid features are not tied to data access; the App has no paid features.

9. Children’s privacy

The App is designed for students, including younger homeschool and classical-education students, with a parent or educator involved.

We do not require a real email, phone number, address, or date of birth. We do not enable chat. We do not show ads. We do not collect location or photos.

The display name is whatever the player (or parent) types. Do not put a last name, email address, phone number, school name, or other contact details in that field. A first name or nickname is enough.

We do not knowingly collect personal contact information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information that should not be there, email us and we will delete it. Parents and educators can delete a child’s account and all associated progress at any time with Delete Account on the Profile screen.

We comply with applicable children’s privacy laws, including the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and, where they apply, the EU/UK GDPR rules for children’s data. The App is not directed at collecting more information from children than is needed to save a game and show a first name on a leaderboard.

10. Security

We use HTTPS, access controls, and database row-level security so a player can change only their own account data. PINs are stored by the authentication provider in hashed form. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

11. International transfers

Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. If you use the App from another country, you understand that your information may be processed outside your home country, including in places whose privacy laws may differ from yours.

12. Do not sell; no unexpected reuse

We do not sell personal information. We do not use information collected for one purpose (running the App) for another purpose (such as advertising or third-party AI) without a further, explicit permission. We do not try to re-identify diagnostic data.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post the new version at this same address with a new “Last updated” date. If we start collecting new types of data, add advertising or tracking, or share data with new kinds of third parties, we will update this page and the App Store privacy labels before that change ships.
